collaboration:
a necessity
Have you ever had to come up with a creative idea or just an idea in general and just not know anything to say at all? And you sit there like "ummm yeah can we skip that one" or "I don't know, not my prob"?
This doesn't have to just apply to school projects. It can apply to working with other people in general:
getting to know their differences, accepting them, and sharing/exchanging ideas in order to make things better in the world around you and be effective in the workplace.
It isn't impossible to think up everything on our own, but it's less painless when you work and talk with others to solve something.
So now you're probably thinking "okay true" but what's the point?
Well, let's Talk Brain!:
(oh yeah! science!)
As you probably know, there are two sides to your brain. You're right side is more creative based and your left side is more analytical based.
Think about this:
every person you meet has two sides.
You alone have two sides and when you put them together and try to solve something, you are having twice the amount of analytical thinking and twice the amount of creative thinking.
Because we have two sides and the way in which we tap into them are different, it adds to our diversity/difference and can make it hard to collaborate.
This is true.
But collaboration isn't impossible when people really try. And practicing the trait of acceptance and understanding is possible.
It all starts with EMPATHY.
Ways To Make Collaboration Happen:
- Listen to your friends when they talk to you
- Put 100% of your time and energy when working in group projects or activities
- Listen to people when they are speaking and pay attention to what what they don't say
- Don't be afraid to show your differences. Instead, embrace them
- Let people know you are accepting and people will be more accepting of you
- Point out the strengths in others rather than their weaknesses. This will create a sense of teamwork and togetherness that says "we are all on the same boat of life, need a life jacket?"
- If it seems impossible to work with someone, talk it out with them and if they still don't give, accept it and stay positive, because sometimes victory in these types of situations are when you look at the bigger picture rather than the smaller one.
Collaboration is a need.
It is needed for us to come up with solutions.
It is needed in our schools.
You need it in your life.
If you aren't good in groups, THAT'S OKAY!
We all learn different ways and this goes back to the 2 sides of the brain. You are probably more analytical and prefer to work alone. This is good! It's healthy!
The world needs a diverse number of people who work alone and people who work together.
Collaboration is key:
don't be afraid of it.
appreciate it.
& just do it.
