"design me":
using the design thinking process to innovate your life & education.

Picture

The design thinking process produces innovative solutions, so why not use it to innovate your life and use your personal victory to become successful in life, through school, and in bettering your education?

Picture
The Challenge:

1) Brainstorm things about yourself that you would like to improve.
2) Next, brainstorm things in your community or the world that need to be improved.

The Formula:

Identifying Your Strengths

+

Your Ideas to improve your

world

=

New Designed You &

New Designed solutions

 to education using the

design thinking process.

Just Take A Moment To Think!

collaboration:

a necessity

Picture

Have you ever had to come up with a creative idea or just an idea in general and just not know anything to say at all? And you sit there like "ummm yeah can we skip that one" or "I don't know, not my prob"?

This doesn't have to just apply to school projects. It can apply to working with other people in general:
getting to know their differences, accepting them, and sharing/exchanging ideas in order to make things better in the world around you and be effective in the workplace.

It isn't impossible to think up everything on our own, but it's less painless when you work and talk with others to solve something.

So now you're probably thinking "okay true" but what's the point?

Well, let's Talk Brain!:

(oh yeah! science!)
Picture

As you probably know, there are two sides to your brain. You're right side is more creative based and your left side is more analytical based.

 Think about this:

every person you meet has two sides.

You alone have two sides and when you put them together and try to solve something, you are having twice the amount of analytical thinking and twice the amount of creative thinking.

Because we have two sides and the way in which we tap into them are different, it adds to our diversity/difference and can make it hard to collaborate.

This is true.

But collaboration isn't impossible when people really try. And practicing the trait of acceptance and understanding is possible.

It all starts with EMPATHY.

Ways To Make Collaboration Happen:

  • Listen to your friends when they talk to you
  • Put 100% of your time and energy when working in group projects or activities
  • Listen to people when they are speaking and pay attention to what what they don't say
  • Don't be afraid to show your differences. Instead, embrace them
  • Let people know you are accepting and people will be more accepting of you
  • Point out the strengths in others rather than their weaknesses. This will create a sense of teamwork and togetherness that says "we are all on the same boat of life, need a life jacket?"
  • If it seems impossible to work with someone, talk it out with them and if they still don't give, accept it and stay positive, because sometimes victory in these types of situations are when you look at the bigger picture rather than the smaller one.

Collaboration is a need.

It is needed for us to come up with solutions.

It is needed in our schools.

You need it in your life.

If you aren't good in groups, THAT'S OKAY!
We all learn different ways and this goes back to the 2 sides of the brain. You are probably more analytical and prefer to work alone. This is good! It's healthy!
The world needs a diverse number of people who work alone and people who work together.

Collaboration is key:

don't be afraid of it.

appreciate it.

& just do it.

#EFsummit students,
This is for you:

The Village:
Share your innovation village project!
You can talk about:

  • What you and your group designed (feel free to include your group name)
  • What you thought of the design thinking process
  • What inventions stood out to you (connect to each other if you see that someone commented on your project)

Innovation:
innovation-
  • is different than invention
  • can be the answer to difficult situations
  • solves problems
  • a new method, idea, product

Our ideas at the innovation village were outstanding! We could all see the excitement and the fire in each other's eyes when we talked about our ideas and stated our pitch.

But wouldn't you agree we didn't get all that much time to share our ideas with each other?  or at least see all of the ideas that were displayed?

What's your definition of innovation?

What did you think innovation was before/after the summit?

What did you learn about yourself or each other through innovating to create a new product?

How does innovation connect to education as a human right and the future of our education?
