You are,
a sky full of stars
Have you ever felt like us youth aren't appreciated and valued because well, we are young?
Have you often felt associated with the phrases and words, "too young", "can't make change", "they aren't an adult yet", "he/she's just a baby." (If you are the youngest child like me, you know what I'm talking about) but what I'm REALLY talking about is the fact that youth leadership is not valued as much as it should be because we are "too young" to have a voice or "too young to make a REAL change."
TRUTH IS: We are young, yes. But full of passion, imagination, dreams, and innovative ideas that often tend to fade in other people as they get older. There are more young people than there are of any other age group so if ANYONE has the power to truly change the way things are, it's us.
And we do that both on our own, and together. We may need to learn things along the way, but what life do you know of that doesn't have any struggle in it? Struggle is normal in being a leader and you, yeah YOU who are reading this, are in fact a leader. Everyone has potential including you. Academics matter and by all means work hard. But don't develop the mentality that grades and statistics define you and do not let them withhold you from making the change needed in your community
The reason all of this relates to "Change In Our Communities" is because you have to be:
the voice, advocate, and change of your community.
You have to be the one to say:
"we need to improve this"
"we need to change this"
"this needs to happen and I'm going to work with these people to do so"
I promise you that if you not only speak up, but act (ha! pun because you know "ACT"), you will not hear "you are too young to make a change" ever again. And you sure won't feel that way anymore. It's never too early and it's never too late to make a change that needs to happen in your community.
You shine brighter than others around you (obviously) and just by you reading this, you are already makes a change.
You are a sky full of stars
and in order for the rest of the
world to see you shine, you just
need to get up and
turn on the switch!
